Ghana on Sunday, August 10, 2025, laid to rest two Muslims who perished in the tragic Ghana Air Force helicopter crash on August 6.

The solemn rites, conducted in strict adherence to Islamic traditions, honoured Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology and Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

The Janazah prayers were held at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra, led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.

The service drew a cross-section of Ghanaians, with the presence of President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, religious leaders, security chiefs, and hundreds of mourners from across the country.

Following the prayers, the bodies were conveyed to the Military Cemetery near Burma Camp for interment.

The burial followed a sombre atmosphere, with the Muslim community and the nation at large mourning the loss of two public servants described by colleagues as dedicated patriots who served with honour.

The fatal crash occurred in the Adansi-Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region when a Z-9 helicopter carrying five high-profile passengers and three crew members vanished from the radar shortly after departing Accra at 09:12 GMT.

The aircraft was on its way to Obuasi to support anti-illegal mining operations.

A search-and-rescue mission later confirmed that all eight on board had died.

Among the victims were Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East; Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The government has announced that an inter-denominational state funeral for all eight victims will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Black Star Square.
