The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has granted amnesty to all members who have been suspended or are facing disciplinary actions, in a bid to promote unity and reconciliation within the party.
The decision was made at an emergency meeting of the National Council on July 25, 2025, and was communicated to regional and constituency executive committees in a letter signed by the Acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey.
The amnesty is a significant development in the party’s efforts to foster internal cohesion and strengthen solidarity among its members.
The move is expected to bring back members who have been suspended or have had their membership terminated, and provide them with an opportunity to re-engage with the party.
Terms Of The Amnesty
According to the letter, members who have forfeited their membership are required to submit a formal application to the national secretariat for reinstatement.
However, upon reinstatement, they will be ineligible to contest any internal party election for a period of two years.
The party’s leadership at all levels has been advised to refrain from arbitrary suspensions and to handle disciplinary matters in accordance with the party’s constitution.
Importance of Party Discipline
The NPP has emphasized the importance of party discipline and adherence to its constitutional procedures.
The national secretariat has requested full compliance with the directive, and party leaders have been reminded to follow due process in handling disciplinary matters.
