The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken disciplinary steps against its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, following a petition submitted to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee.
In a statement issued on September 30, 2025, and signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party disclosed that the petition details a series of “unbecoming actions” by Abronye which it considers damaging to the unity, image, and integrity of the organisation.
Allegations of Insults And Defamation
At the center of the petition is Abronye’s attack on Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a senior figure in the party.
He is reported to have made derogatory remarks suggesting that “even the elephant has more wisdom than Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.”
The party says such statements are defamatory and unacceptable, stressing that they undermine not only the reputation of Kennedy Agyapong but also the public standing of the NPP itself.
Claims Against General Secretary
Abronye is further accused of falsely alleging that the General Secretary deliberately concealed a report that supposedly implicated Kennedy Agyapong as the “destroyer of the party” and recommended his expulsion.
According to Kodua Frimpong, this accusation is “false, malicious, and injurious” to the office he occupies and constitutes an attack on the integrity of the national leadership.
Misrepresentation of Committee Findings
The petition also faults Abronye for disclosing and misrepresenting the findings of a disciplinary committee report, alleging that it contained a catalogue of offences attributed to Kennedy Agyapong. The party considers this a serious breach of confidentiality, decorum, and discipline.
Leadership Seeks Disciplinary Sanctions
In view of the above, the NPP has asked the National Disciplinary Committee to launch a full and impartial inquiry into Abronye’s conduct and to impose appropriate sanctions as outlined in the party’s constitution.
“The party emphasises that ensuring accountability within its ranks is non-negotiable because it safeguards the unity, integrity, and credibility of the organisation,” the statement read.
Background of Internal Tensions
The petition comes at a time of heightened factional tensions within the NPP as it prepares for another round of internal elections.
The party, now in opposition after losing the 2024 general elections, is bracing itself for a bruising flagbearer contest ahead of 2028.
Only days earlier, the leadership was forced to distance itself from controversial remarks made by both Abronye and the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, over the compilation of polling station albums and the timing of the party’s presidential primaries.
The General Secretary reminded members that such processes are strictly guided by party structures and cannot be dictated by individuals.
Reassurance
By escalating the matter to the disciplinary committee, the NPP leadership aims to demonstrate its commitment to discipline, fairness, and transparency in order to calm growing disquiet within its ranks.
“The leadership remains committed to fairness, discipline, and the protection of the party’s democratic values,” the statement concluded, calling on members to rally behind the structures of the party as it reorganises for the 2028 elections.
