In a stunning and rare display of polygamous tradition, a man in Winneba, Central Region, has made headlines after marrying three women in a grand five-day wedding celebrations.
Nicholas Mbir, the groom, tied the knot with three women — Grace Agyarko, Esther Abass, and Angelina Prah — in separate but consecutive ceremonies held at different locations around Winneba from Wednesday, April 23 to Sunday, April 27, 2025.
The series of engagements began on Day 1, Wednesday, April 23, with the marriage of Nicholas to Grace Agyarko at Pomadze, a community near Winneba.
On Day 2, Thursday, April 24, Nicholas married his second bride, Esther Abass, at the Ayeldo Community Center.
The festivities continued into Day 3, Friday, April 25, when he wedded Angelina Prah at Teterdo, another community within Winneba.
The celebrations did not end with the individual ceremonies.
On Day 4 (Saturday, April 26) and Day 5 (Sunday, April 27), a grand joint event was held at the Sakora Park near the Salvation Divine Miracle Church (Prah) in Winneba.
These final days were dedicated to a communal celebration where the three brides and their new husband were formally introduced to the wider community, marking the climax of the unique marital union.

An official engagement invitation circulated ahead of the event listed the dates and locations, and included contact numbers for guests to RSVP according to each day’s activities.
The invitation read: “THE ENGAGEMENT INVITATION OF NICHOLAS MBIR AND WIVES: ANGELINA PRAH, GRACE AGYARKO, ESTHER ABASS.”
Details showed a well-organized plan, ensuring that each bride had her own day for the traditional rites before culminating in a communal celebration attended by family, friends, and curious onlookers.
Polygamy, while legal under customary law in Ghana, remains uncommon in formal ceremonies, particularly in Christian-dominated communities like Winneba.
However, in certain traditional and Muslim communities, it is culturally accepted and practiced openly.
Observers noted the large turnout and festive mood throughout the week, with each day’s event drawing significant attention from both residents and visitors.
There was also widespread social media discussion, with some praising the man’s openness and planning, while others debated the cultural and religious implications of such a marriage.

While Nicholas Mbir and his three wives have not yet spoken publicly about their marriage, close family sources describe the union as consensual and based on deep mutual respect among all parties involved.
The event has since become one of the most talked-about social happenings in Winneba for 2025, blending old customs with modern spectacle.
