A shocking incident of domestic violence has shaken the community of Somanya, after a 26-year-old car washer, Isaac Tetteh Angmortey, brutally assaulted his six-month pregnant girlfriend, a 29-year-old Hannah Amedi.
The accused pleaded guilty to causing harm and was remanded in prison custody for three weeks by Somanya court.
According to the prosecution, Police Chief Inspector John Brahene, police received a distress call from an unknown individual reporting the assault along Mount Mary Road in Somanya.
Upon arrival, the police found Angmortey physically assaulting Amedi, who sustained multiple injuries, including a swollen forehead and blood oozing from her lips, neck, and ears.
Amedi had been staying with her auntie in the same vicinity for about a month due to Angmortey’s recent abusive behaviour.
During interrogation, Angmortey claimed he was at work when he suspected Amedi was having an affair with another man in his home.
He returned to find no one in the room and then went to Amedi’s auntie’s house, where he began beating her.
The court, presided over by Kwasi Apiatse Abaidoo, remanded Angmortey in prison custody to reappear on April 10, 2025.
Fortunately, checks by the Ghana News Agency at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital confirmed that Amedi has not lost her unborn child.
