Kumasi’s Baba Yara Sports Stadium, erupted into a frenzy on Saturday night as multiple award-winning rapper Sarkodie delivered his iconic Rapperholic concert, backed by the electrifying presence of dancehall king Shatta Wale.
The show, which formed part of MTN’s MoMoFest 2025, has been described by many as one of the most unforgettable nights in the entertainment history.
From the early morning, thousands of fans dressed in Sarkodie and Shatta Wale merchandise began filling the Garden City, turning the Ashanti regional capital into a carnival of music and digital innovation.
The atmosphere outside the stadium was equally charged, with the MoMoFest “Cashless Market” bustling with vendors and patrons transacting exclusively through mobile money.
Sarkodie And Shatta Wale Light Up the Stage
When Sarkodie finally mounted the stage, the cheers were deafening.
He performed back-to-back hits spanning over a decade of dominance in the rap scene.
The crowd sang along word for word, reaffirming his “Landlord” title. But the night’s biggest surprise came when Shatta Wale stormed the stage to join him.
The two giants, often painted as rivals in Ghana’s music industry, united to perform some of their collaborations, thrilling the fans and symbolizing unity in the entertainment space.
Shatta Wale, known for his fiery performances, matched Sarkodie’s energy, sending the stadium into wild celebrations.
Beyond Music: A Festival of Innovation
While the performances dominated headlines, MoMoFest itself was more than a concert.
The event served as a showcase of the growing cashless ecosystem, backed by MTN. Vendors at the Cashless Market sold out quickly, with all payments processed via MoMo, reinforcing the push for digital financial inclusion.
Turning Point for Kumasi
For Kumasi, the event was more than entertainment — it was cultural and economic.
Hotels reportedly fully booked, local businesses cashed in, and the city temporarily became the heartbeat of the nightlife.
