Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has opened up about the collapse of his once-close friendship with Nigerian Grammy Award-winning artist Burna Boy, alleging that a false rumour accusing him of having an affair with Burna Boy’s girlfriend destroyed the strong bond they once shared.
The “On God” hitmaker claimed the allegation, which he insists was fabricated by people within his former circle, was deliberately spread to tarnish his image and create mistrust between the two African music heavyweights.
Speaking during an appearance on the Brunch Podcast, Shatta Wale said the rumour reached Burna Boy before he had the opportunity to explain himself, leading to a breakdown in communication that ultimately ended their friendship.
According to the Ghanaian musician, the relationship he shared with Burna Boy went far beyond music collaborations or industry connections.
He described their friendship as one built on genuine brotherhood, mutual respect and unwavering support.
Shatta Wale revealed that during Burna Boy’s visits to Ghana, he personally assisted the Nigerian superstar and his family in several ways, including helping them to secure accommodation and extending hospitality to Burna Boy’s mother.
He said those experiences made the eventual breakdown of their friendship even more painful.
According to Shatta Wale, the allegation that he had an affair with Burna Boy’s girlfriend was entirely false and was orchestrated by individuals he once trusted.
He alleged that the rumour was intentionally circulated to create tension between him and Burna Boy and damage the close relationship they had developed over the years.
The dancehall artist did not identify the individuals he believes were responsible but suggested they were members of his former inner circle.
Shatta Wale maintained that Burna Boy was informed about the allegation before he had the opportunity to present his side of the story, a situation he believes ultimately led to the collapse of their friendship.
