Award-winning Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale has sparked widespread discussion after revealing that he considers himself retired from active music, despite remaining one of the country’s most influential and commercially successful entertainers.

The musician, known in private life as Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., made the surprising declaration during an interview with media personality Bola Ray, stating that he stepped away from music as his primary occupation three years ago and has since redirected his attention towards business development and entrepreneurship.

His comments have generated debate among fans and industry observers, many of whom find it difficult to reconcile the retirement claim with his continued dominance on the entertainment scene.

Over the past few years, Shatta Wale has consistently released new songs, performed at major concerts, remained highly active on social media and continued to command one of the largest fan bases in the music industry.

Responding to a question about whether he had reached a stage in life where he could comfortably walk away from music, the dancehall star confidently stated that he had already retired from active music-making three years ago.

According to him, while the public still largely identifies him as a musician, his current priorities extend beyond recording songs and performing on stage.

He explained that his attention is now focused on building sustainable businesses capable of generating long-term wealth and creating economic opportunities beyond the entertainment sector.

The artist indicated that he has embraced entrepreneurship as the next phase of his career and is investing significant time and resources into expanding his commercial interests.

Among the ventures he highlighted were Shaxi, a ride-hailing service he launched to compete within the growing transportation technology sector, and Hot Wave, another business initiative he considers part of his broader investment portfolio.

Shatta Wale further disclosed that his business network has expanded beyond Ghana’s borders, revealing that he has established investment relationships and partnerships in countries such as China and the United Arab Emirates.

According to him, these international connections form part of a larger strategy aimed at creating sustainable income streams and positioning himself as a global entrepreneur.

The musician also announced the launch of a new digital marketplace designed to support traders and small-scale businesses, particularly those operating within Accra’s bustling commercial centres, including the popular Tuesday Market.

He hinted that additional technology-driven projects are currently being developed and would soon be unveiled to the public.

Describing the new venture, Shatta Wale suggested that it represents only the beginning of a larger vision focused on innovation, digital commerce and economic empowerment.
