Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has emerged as one of the unexpected transfer attractions from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with clubs from Europe, South America and Saudi Arabia reportedly showing interest in securing his services after his impressive performances for the Black Stars.
The 34-year-old goalkeeper’s representatives are now exploring opportunities for him to continue his career outside Ghana, with a possible international transfer emerging as one of the major developments surrounding the Hearts of Oak shot-stopper ahead of the close of the transfer window.
The interest comes after Asare transformed his status within the Black Stars during the World Cup. He travelled to the tournament as Ghana’s second-choice goalkeeper but ended up featuring in three matches, producing performances that significantly enhanced his reputation on the international stage.
Among his most notable displays was Ghana’s encounter with England, where Asare produced a strong goalkeeping performance and was instrumental in keeping the Black Stars competitive. He also recorded clean sheets against England and Panama during Ghana’s World Cup campaign.
His performances subsequently earned him recognition among the top 10 best-performing goalkeepers at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, further raising his profile and attracting attention from clubs outside Africa.
The growing interest has reportedly come from a wide geographical spread. German club Hertha BSC, Brazilian side Fortaleza and Swedish outfit Vasteras are among the clubs that have shown initial interest in the Ghanaian goalkeeper.
Despite the growing list of suitors, no concrete offer has yet been submitted for Asare, leaving his immediate future open as his representatives continue to assess the available options.
Interest has also emerged from Saudi Arabia, where clubs have reportedly made contact over a possible move.
However, Asare and his representatives are understood to favour a transfer to Europe if a suitable opportunity becomes available.
A move abroad would represent another major stage in Asare’s career after his emergence as a key figure for Hearts of Oak and his subsequent breakthrough on the international scene with Ghana.
