In a bold move to tackle the menace of galamsey and fraudulent activities, the Minister of the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has announced that 107 foreign nationals involved in these illicit activities have been repatriated.
This announcement was made during the Police Regional Commanders’ Conference on Friday, March 21, 2025.
“As we gather here today, we are reminded of the critical role the Police Service plays in the security and stability of our beloved country,” the Minister stated.
He explained that “It is through your tireless efforts that we have maintained peace in the face of increasing challenges, and for this, we are grateful.”
The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to cracking down on illegal mining and other fraudulent activities involving foreigners.
“The issue of illegal mining poses a significant security risk, particularly in our forest reserves and mining communities,” he noted.
“We are declaring war on crimes related to illegal mining, and I expect every Regional Commander to take decisive action to bring perpetrators to justice.”
The Minister also announced the establishment of a dedicated Secretariat for the 24-Hour Economy Policing System.
“In line with our commitment to driving economic progress and ensuring that our nation remains competitive in the global economy, the Ministry is pleased to announce the establishment of a dedicated Secretariat for the 24-hour Economy Policing System,” he explained.
“This initiative is crucial as we recognize the need to bolster security to keep pace with the growing demands of a modern and thriving economy.”
Additionally, the Police Administration has initiated a three-day orientation for all Regional and Unit Police Public Relations Officers (PROs).
“We are committed to ensuring that policing is not only efficient but also accessible and responsive to the needs of the citizens,” the Minister stated.
“To achieve this, the Police Administration has initiated a three-day orientation for all Regional and Unit Police PROs.”
The Minister assured the international and business communities that the Government of Ghana remains committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all who contribute to the growth and development of the nation.
“You are integral to the continued progress of our country, and we will ensure that the necessary security measures are in place to allow you to conduct your business without fear of disruption,” he assured.
The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and prosperity of all Ghanaians.
“We will continue to implement policies and strategies that promote a more secure environment and create a conducive atmosphere for economic growth,” he stated.
“Together, we will overcome the challenges we face and build a safer, stronger, and more secure Ghana,” Muntaka Mubarak emphasized.
