The Eastern South Regional Police Command has successfully foiled an alleged assassination plot targeting a prominent traditional ruler in the Eastern Region, leading to the arrest of two suspects believed to be the masterminds behind the diabolical plan.
The suspects, identified as Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth, were apprehended following an intelligence-led operation that exposed their plans to eliminate the Chief of Akyem Kwabeng ahead of his upcoming royal durbar scheduled for 17th October 2025.
According to a statement issued by DSP David Fianko-Okyere, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Eastern South Regional Police Command, the arrests were made after a covert investigation launched on 11th October 2025.
Police intelligence officers had intercepted critical information suggesting a plot to assassinate the Chief and a woman reportedly earmarked for installation as Queen Mother.
During the undercover operation, suspect Emelia Akua Asor allegedly offered GH₵50,000 to the disguised operatives to carry out the assassination.

She is also said to have promised an additional GH₵50,000 after the completion of the deadly mission.
Police investigations further revealed that Emelia Akua Asor instructed her accomplice, Butuakwa Seth, to help identify the homes of the intended victims.
Acting on her orders, Butuakwa reportedly led the undercover team to the residences of both the Chief and the woman.
He also provided the officers with a photograph of the Chief to assist them in carrying out the planned execution.
The swift intervention of the police prevented what could have been a bloody episode in the Akyem Kwabeng Traditional Area, just days before the Chief’s maiden royal durbar — a highly anticipated cultural event expected to draw dignitaries and subjects from across the region.
Both suspects are currently in police custody assisting with further investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.
DSP Fianko-Okyere assured the public that the Eastern South Regional Police Command remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and maintain peace, especially among traditional leaders whose security is vital to the stability of local governance and cultural heritage.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly, adding that the Police Administration will continue to act swiftly on credible intelligence to thwart any criminal plots that threaten public safety.
