A devastating road crash involving a bullion van and a KIA truck has claimed the lives of two police officers and two others in the Ashanti Region, sparking grief and concern over reckless driving on Ghana’s roads.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, near Adanwomase, along the Bonwire road, a well-travelled route in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality.
According to an eyewitness accounts, the accident involved three vehicles: a bullion van carrying police escorts, a KIA truck, and a Toyota vehicle—two of which were allegedly engaged in a dangerous high-speed race.
Deadly Sequence of Events
Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted that the KIA truck and the Toyota vehicle were speeding in a dangerous competition along the stretch when they approached a sharp bend.
Meanwhile, the bullion van, carrying at least two police officers, was also travelling at considerable speed from the opposite direction.
In what appears to be a tragic miscalculation and failure to brake in time, the bullion van collided head-on with the KIA truck.
The force of the impact crushed the front cabins of both vehicles, instantly trapping the occupants inside.
Bystanders and nearby residents rushed to the scene to assist, followed shortly by emergency responders and personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service.
Unfortunately, all four occupants—two policemen and two civilians—were confirmed dead at the scene.
