Convicted televangelist and self-styled prophetess, Evangelist Patricia Asiedua — widely known as Nana Agradaa or Mama Pat — has issued a formal apology and full retraction of defamatory statements she made earlier this year against gospel musician Empress Gifty Oppong Adorye, wife of politician Hopeson Adorye.
The unexpected move marks a major climb-down in months long public feud that has dominated entertainment and political circles.
The apology, issued on 4 December 2025 by Agyaa Asamani Law Consult on behalf of Evangelist Asiedua, follows a series of social media outbursts in May 2025 in which Agradaa reacted angrily to comments made about her by Hopeson Adorye.
In those reactions, she published posts that were widely interpreted as impugning the morality and integrity of Empress Gifty.
According to her lawyers, the statements were made “in the spur of the moment” and were never intended to be taken literally — a clarification that effectively admits the claims were baseless.
“It is now stated unequivocally that the allegations… were false and completely without merit,” the official statement read, adding that Agradaa “retracts every statement made therein.”
The law firm further conveyed Agradaa’s “unqualified and sincere apology” to Empress Gifty for the damage caused to her personal and professional reputation.
The apology also extended to the musician’s family, friends, and colleagues for the “pain and distress” resulting from the defamatory content.
Feud
The dispute between Agradaa and Hopeson Adorye escalated sharply in May 2025 following a viral controversy involving a cash gift of $800 that Agradaa received from Sammy Gyamfi, acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
The video of the gift sparked nationwide debates, political criticisms, and internal party backlash, eventually leading to an official summons of the GoldBod CEO by the Chief of Staff.
In the midst of the public uproar, Hopeson Adorye publicly criticised both the televangelist and Sammy Gyamfi, urging the latter to distance himself from Agradaa.
He went further to suggest that supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should block Agradaa from accessing Gyamfi’s office until she returned the money.
Nana Agradaa responded fiercely on TikTok, threatening to ensure Adorye’s arrest if he continued mentioning her name.
She also verbally attacked his wife, Empress Gifty, insulting her and questioning her involvement in the matter. At the time, Agradaa insisted that she had tolerated Adorye’s past insults but would no longer allow her name to be “dragged through the mud.”
Following sustained public pressure and growing backlash, Agradaa later vowed to return the money — even promising to double it — and record the refund on camera.
A Rare Moment of Concession
For a personality known for her fiery exchanges and confrontational tone, Thursday’s retraction marks a significant shift. Signed by Richard Asare, a senior officer at the law firm, the statement suggests Agradaa is seeking to close a damaging chapter that has deepened her notoriety since her conviction on separate fraud-related offences.
