A 14-year-old student preparing for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has tragically passed away, sending waves of grief through the community of Kwahu Praso in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The deceased, Jennifer Osei Nyama, a student of Kwahu Praso Preparatory School, was reported to have complained of a headache on the morning of Wednesday, June 11, just before heading out to write her BECE papers.

According to her father, Sir Godwin—popularly known as “Adwuma”—Jennifer took some painkillers and proceeded to the examination centre to sit for her papers.

Later in the day, her condition reportedly deteriorated, prompting an urgent visit to the Kwahu Praso Clinic where she received initial treatment and was discharged.

However, her symptoms worsened significantly later that night.

In a desperate attempt to save her, her family rushed her to the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw.

Sadly, Jennifer passed away in the early hours of Thursday, June 12.

Her remains have since been deposited at the Holy Family Hospital morgue.

The news of her death has devastated not only her family but also her schoolmates and the wider community.
Some of her classmates, visibly shaken, spoke to the media about how they had only just sat for their exams alongside her the day before.

The tragedy has prompted a response from local education authorities.

The Kwahu South Municipal Director of Education, Williams Frimpong, together with the Municipal Chief Executive, Effah Osei Bonsu David, visited the examination centre early Thursday to console and encourage the remaining candidates.

They later visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and support.
