Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu will face a challenging semi-final heat in the men’s 100m at the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

Saminu, with a season and personal best of 9.84s, will compete against some of the world’s fastest sprinters, including Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo and Canada’s Andre De Grasse.

Competitive Field

Saminu has been drawn in Heat 3, which features a talented field of athletes.

Tebogo, a silver medalist from the last World Championships and 200m gold medalist from the Paris Olympics, boasts a personal best of 9.86s.

De Grasse, a former World and Olympic champion, brings a wealth of experience to the competition, despite entering with a modest season’s best of 10.15s.

Other Contenders

Other athletes in the heat include Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, currently ranked fourth in the world this season with a best of 9.83s, South Africa’s Gift Leotlela (9.87 PB), Nigeria’s Israel Okon (10.03 SB), and Great Britain’s Romell Glave (10.00 PB).

All these athletes have the potential to capitalize if the favorites falter.

Qualification Rules

The qualification rules state that only the first two finishers in each semi-final, plus the next two fastest across all heats, will progress to the final scheduled for Sunday.

Saminu will need to perform at his best to secure a spot in the final.

Previous Encounters

This semi-final heat sets up a rematch between Tebogo, De Grasse, and American sprinter Lindsey, who previously faced each other in Heat Five.

Tebogo won the heat in 10.07s, followed by De Grasse in 10.16s and Lindsey in 10.19s.

Saminu’s Chances

Saminu’s chances of progressing to the final will depend on his performance in the semi-final heat. With a strong field of competitors, he will need to run to his best ability to secure a spot in the final.
