Abdula Ahmed Clinches WBA Africa Cruiserweight Title With Dominant Display

The rising boxing star Abdula Ahmed delivered a commanding performance to claim the WBA Africa Cruiserweight title after defeating Nigeria’s Oraboro Eradaye by unanimous decision at the Bukom Boxing Arena over the weekend.

The victory marked Ahmed’s tenth consecutive win since turning professional, maintaining his flawless record and confirming his rapid rise within Africa’s cruiserweight division. Against a far more experienced opponent, Ahmed showed composure, tactical discipline, and growing maturity in the ring.

Eradaye entered the bout with a strong résumé of 22 wins and just two losses, and early exchanges reflected his experience.
However, Ahmed seized the initiative, using sharp jabs and aggressive forward movement to unsettle the Nigerian and dictate the tempo of the fight.

Backed by a vibrant home crowd, Ahmed’s precision punching began to tell, as his jabs repeatedly pierced Eradaye’s guard. The Nigerian responded with powerful counters and clever footwork, relying on ring intelligence to disrupt Ahmed’s rhythm and prevent sustained attacking sequences.

The contest remained competitive through the early rounds, but by the fifth, Ahmed had edged ahead. His superior footwork allowed him to evade dangerous counters while maintaining offensive pressure, gradually tipping the balance in his favour.

After ten rounds of action, all three judges—Roger Barnor, Gabriel Maciel, and Temitayo Olaifa—returned identical scorecards of 99-91, sealing a unanimous decision victory for the Ghanaian and crowning him the new WBA Africa Cruiserweight champion.

The triumph not only secures Ahmed a major continental title but also reinforces his growing reputation as one of Ghana’s brightest boxing prospects.
Having previously captured the belt with a knockout victory over Haruna Mohammed, Ahmed is now set to hold the title for at least two years, further cementing his dominance in the division.

The high-profile bout drew notable personalities, including Kofi Adams, Sports Minister, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director General of the National Sports Authority, NSA, John Dumelo, deputy Agic minister, Dr Likee, and Asamoah Gyan, all of whom witnessed the electrifying atmosphere at Bukom.
