Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been installed as an Honorary Lay Canon of the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua, a recognition bestowed on him by the Church of the Province of West Africa for his contributions to public service and society.

The ceremony was held at the St. Peter Anglican Cathedral on Passion Sunday—the fifth Sunday in Lent—following what the former President described as a period of prayerful reflection.

In a message shared after the event, Nana Akufo-Addo indicated that the honour acknowledges his lifelong commitment to service and places upon him new responsibilities within the Anglican Communion.

These responsibilities span key areas such as health, evangelism, education, investment, tourism, and hospitality—sectors the Church considers vital to its mission and societal impact.

Reflecting on the recognition, the former President underscored the role of faith in shaping his journey in public life, describing his experiences as evidence of divine guidance and purpose.

“My experiences and service, throughout my adult life, have been a testimony of God’s love,” he stated, referencing the biblical passage Matthew 19:26—“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

The installation adds Nana Akufo-Addo to a distinguished group of lay individuals honoured by the Anglican Church for their dedication to societal development and support for the Church’s work.

He further pledged to remain committed to the values and responsibilities associated with the title, affirming his intention to continue serving the Church through prayer, moral leadership, and active support for its programmes.

“I commit… to continued service to the Church, to live a holy life, to pray regularly for God’s blessing upon the work of the Church,” he noted, while also expressing readiness to contribute to the growth of the Anglican faith both within the Koforidua Diocese and across the West African Province.

The ex-President also extended gratitude to the diocesan leadership, particularly the Bishop of Koforidua, Felix Odei Annancy, as well as the clergy and the wider Anglican community for the honour conferred on him.
