Akufo-Addo Launches JB Danquah Book

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has launched a book celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Joseph Kyeretwie Boakye Danquah, a renowned Ghanaian statesman, scholar, philosopher, jurist, and traditional leader.

The book, a compendium of sixty statements, chronicles Danquah’s storied life, marked by his tireless efforts for political pluralism, respect for human dignity, preservation of cultural and traditional heritage, and his unwavering love of freedom for humanity.

The launch took place on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Kyebi in Eastern Region, during a Remembrance Service marking the sixtieth year of JB Danquah’s passing.

The event was attended by members of the clergy, political and traditional leadership, and fellow Ghanaians, all gathered to pay tribute to Danquah’s enduring legacy.

Dr. Joseph Kyeretwie Boakye Danquah was a towering figure in Ghana’s history, known for his instrumental role in the country’s independence movement.

Born on December 18, 1895, in Bepong, Gold Coast, Danquah hailed from the royal family of Ofori Panin Fie, the rulers of the Akyem state.

He was a founding member of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) and played a key role in the country’s transition to independence.

J B Danquah’s life was marked by his commitment to education, law, and politics.

He was a scholar, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from the University of London and later becoming the first West African to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy degree from a British university.

He was also a skilled lawyer, called to the Bar in 1926, and a politician who served as a member of the Legislative Council in 1946.

The book launched by Akufo-Addo is a testament to Danquah’s enduring legacy and his contributions to Ghana’s development.
