Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has continued his nationwide post-World Cup appreciation tour by paying a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, where he presented the respected Islamic leader with a customised Black Stars jersey in recognition of his prayers and support for Ghana’s national team.
The ceremony held at the Chief Imam’s residence, formed part of Asare’s “Thank You Tour” following Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the experienced Hearts of Oak goalkeeper emerged as one of the Black Stars’ standout performers.
During the meeting, the 34-year-old shot-stopper presented a personalised Black Stars replica jersey bearing the Chief Imam’s name as a gesture of appreciation for his continuous prayers for the nation and the senior national team.
Ahead of the World Cup campaign, the National Chief Imam had called for nationwide prayers for the Black Stars, urging Ghanaians to unite spiritually behind the team as they pursued success on football’s biggest stage.
Asare also sought the Chief Imam’s prayers, blessings and spiritual guidance as he prepares to begin another football season following an eventful World Cup campaign.
In response, Sheikh Sharubutu offered heartfelt prayers and words of encouragement to the goalkeeper, commending his humility, discipline and outstanding contribution to the performance at the global tournament.
The visit is the latest stop on Asare’s nationwide appreciation tour, which he launched after returning from the World Cup.
Before meeting the National Chief Imam, the Black Stars goalkeeper paid a courtesy call on the Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, to express gratitude for the traditional ruler’s support and blessings throughout the World Cup journey.
Benjamin Asare has also visited Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and met with Alhaji Mohammed Elias, the Sarkin Samari of the Zongo Songhai Community, while spending time with residents of his hometown, Korle Gonno, where he received a rousing welcome following his performances for the Black Stars.
The appreciation tour reflects the goalkeeper’s desire to acknowledge the spiritual leaders, traditional authorities, government officials and ordinary Ghanaians whose encouragement and prayers inspired the Black Stars during the tournament.
