After nearly a year of remaining at the centre of intense public scrutiny following the death of Ghanaian Highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, his family has announced plans to take legal action against individuals accused of spreading false and defamatory information.
The announcement was made by Calvin Fosu, one of Daddy Lumba’s sons, in a video released shortly after the first anniversary of the music icon’s passing.
His remarks mark the strongest public response yet from the immediate family following months of legal disputes, allegations, social media attacks and public speculation surrounding the legendary musician’s death, burial and estate.
Speaking on behalf of the Fosu family, Calvin first expressed profound gratitude to Ghanaians, fans across the world and well-wishers for the overwhelming love, prayers and support shown to the family since Daddy Lumba passed away on July 26, 2025.
He acknowledged that the encouragement received over the past year had helped the family through one of the most difficult periods of their lives.
“On behalf of my entire family, I want to sincerely thank each and every one of you for the incredible love, support and prayers you have shown us over the past year. The way you have continued to honour my father’s legacy means more than words can express,” he stated.
However, after thanking supporters, Calvin turned his attention to what he described as persistent attempts by some individuals to tarnish the family’s image through the circulation of false information.
He warned that the period of remaining silent had come to an end and that anyone found publishing or spreading defamatory statements against members of the family would face legal consequences.
“I also want to send a clear warning to those who have chosen to spread falsehoods or tarnish my family’s name. Let this be clear: those actions will no longer go unanswered,” he declared.
According to Calvin, the family has already engaged lawyers to begin dealing with the matter through the appropriate legal channels.
“A legal team has been instructed to deal with these matters through the appropriate channels,” he added.
Although he did not identify any individual, media organisation or social media personality, his warning comes after months of highly publicised disputes that have kept Daddy Lumba’s family in the national spotlight.
Following the legendary musician’s death in July 2025, disagreements quickly emerged over the circumstances surrounding his passing, his funeral arrangements, the administration of his estate and the legal recognition of his surviving spouses.
Several court cases followed, including litigation over funeral arrangements, the recognition of surviving wives, disputes involving family leadership, the administration of the musician’s estate and legal battles over planned memorial events.
The family also found itself at the centre of widespread public debate after reports emerged that Daddy Lumba had been buried at his private East Legon residence, triggering reactions from traditional authorities and generating extensive discussion across both mainstream and social media.
Those controversies were accompanied by numerous allegations, counter-allegations and accusations exchanged publicly by different factions associated with the late musician’s family.
More recently, the first anniversary of Daddy Lumba’s passing was marked with memorial activities at what the family presented as his final resting place at his East Legon residence, where relatives, friends and admirers gathered to honour one of the greatest musical icons.
Despite the controversies that have surrounded the family over the past year, Calvin urged Ghanaians to continue celebrating the remarkable legacy his father left behind rather than allowing misinformation and division to overshadow his achievements.
Daddy Lumba remains one of Ghana’s most celebrated Highlife musicians, with a music career spanning more than four decades and producing dozens of timeless classics that continue to influence generations of musicians.
His contribution to the music industry has earned him numerous honours, including the Lifetime Achievement Award presented posthumously at the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards in May 2026.
