Annoh-Dompreh Hails NPP National Conference As Milestone In Party Reform And Democratic Renewal

By Daniel Bampoe

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2025 National Delegates’ Conference, held in the capital city of Accra, has been described by key party figures as a landmark event in the party’s evolution, with sweeping constitutional reforms tabled to deepen democratic governance, enhance inclusivity, and streamline internal coordination ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Addressing the outcomes of the Conference, the Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, issued a statement praising the delegates for what he termed a “purpose-driven and patriotic engagement.”

The Congress, he noted, brought together NPP members and delegates from all regions in a show of unity and shared commitment to the party’s foundational ideals of freedom, development, and good governance.

A major focus of the Conference was the consideration of several constitutional amendment motions—each crafted to modernize party operations and respond to emerging political dynamics.

Among the key proposals debated and largely endorsed were:

Restructuring the regional executive election calendar, to allow for better alignment with national campaign cycles and enhance grassroots mobilization ahead of major elections.

Strengthening the roles of TESCON (Tertiary Students Confederacy) and diaspora branches, giving these vital arms of the party a stronger voice in internal deliberations and strategic planning.

Improving coordination between the party’s parliamentary caucus and national leadership, to foster greater policy alignment and coherent messaging across all levels of the party’s machinery.

Enhancing gender and youth representation, with new provisions aimed at ensuring equitable participation across age and gender lines in leadership structures, including at the constituency, regional, and national levels.

“These proposed changes are not cosmetic—they reflect a party that is serious about reform, serious about accountability, and serious about the future,” Annoh-Dompreh stated in his release.

He emphasized that the NPP’s internal reforms are part of a broader strategy to consolidate the party’s base while also appealing to a wider segment of the Ghanaian electorate.

According to him, the party’s ability to remain responsive to the demands of its members and the national mood is what has sustained it as one of the two dominant political forces in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

The Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP also used the opportunity to rally party members around the vision for 2028, reminding them that unity, discipline, and hard work would be central to any electoral success.

“As we look to the future and prepare for the 2028 elections, we must remain focused, united, and resolute. The work ahead is immense, but together, we can once again prove to Ghanaians that the NPP is the most credible and competent vehicle for national transformation,” he concluded.

The 2025 National Conference came at a time of internal reflection and strategic reorientation within the NPP, following the 2024 general elections which saw the party undergo leadership transitions and ideological recalibrations.

The party now appears determined to evolve not just as a political contender, but as an institution prepared to respond to Ghana’s democratic and developmental aspirations with renewed vigor.
