The race for influence in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of its internal power realignments is taking intriguing turns as key political figures position themselves
In the latest development, Charles Cromwell Nanabanyin Onuawonto Bissue, the former NPP parliamentary candidate for Essikado-Ketan in the Western Region, has officially joined the campaign team of former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, as Operational Director.
Bissue’s appointment is seen by party insiders as a strategic move to strengthen “Team Ken” with an experienced hand known for his grassroots mobilization skills and administrative discipline.
He is expected to oversee nationwide campaign operations, coordinate regional teams, and ensure the smooth execution of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign strategy.
Charles Bissue is no stranger to high-pressure political and administrative roles.
He previously served as Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) under the Akufo-Addo administration and also worked as a Presidential Staffer at the Jubilee House.
His tenure in these positions, particularly his involvement in anti-illegal mining operations, earned him a reputation as a results-oriented operator—though it also attracted its share of controversy and political scrutiny leading to the OSP probbing him for alleged bribery.
While Mr. Bissue aligns himself with Kennedy Agyapong’s “bold and fearless” leadership brand, his wife, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, appears to be charting a different political path.
The former Akuapem North MP has been actively expressing her support for another influential NPP figure, former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong, posting messages and campaign content about him on social media.
The couple’s visible alignment with two different heavyweight politicians has sparked conversations within the NPP, with some analysts interpreting it as a calculated political strategy to maintain relevance and influence, regardless of which camp gains the upper hand.
Others see it as a sign of the diverse political affiliations that exist even within households of seasoned politicians.
