CLOGSAG Serves Strike Notice, Gives June 30 Deadline

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has issued a stern ultimatum to the government, demanding immediate action on the implementation of a long-promised salary structure and improved conditions of service.

The association has threatened a nationwide strike if the government fails to meet its demands by June 30, 2025.

The ultimatum was issued in a strongly worded statement following an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

According to CLOGSAG, its members are running out of patience after months of delay by government officials to honour agreements enshrined in earlier Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

Background of Dispute

Tensions between CLOGSAG and the government have been simmering for several months.

The association, which represents thousands of civil and local government staff nationwide, has been pushing for a distinct salary structure and improved working conditions tailored to the specific roles of its members.

On December 20, 2024, and again on May 6, 2025, CLOGSAG formally reminded the government of its obligations through official letters.

However, the association claims these reminders have been met with silence and bureaucratic foot-dragging.

CLOGSAG’s leadership noted that pressure from rank-and-file members has intensified, with many expressing deep frustration over the lack of progress.

In their June 12 resolution, the NEC called on the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment to act swiftly to avoid a disruptive nationwide strike.

“The continued delay has become unbearable,” the association’s statement read.

“We cannot continue to engage in endless negotiations without tangible outcomes. Our members deserve better.”

Countdown Begins

The statement issued by the NEC set June 30, 2025, as the deadline for the government to begin implementation of the agreed salary structure and related benefits.

Should the government fail to take concrete steps by that date, CLOGSAG warned it will have no choice but to initiate a nationwide industrial action.

This would not be the first time CLOGSAG has resorted to strikes to press home its demands.

The association had previously shut down offices across the country, halting key administrative functions in a bid to compel action from authorities.

Call for Constructive Dialogue

Despite the firm tone of its statement, CLOGSAG emphasized its readiness to engage in dialogue if the government demonstrates genuine commitment to resolving the matter.

“We remain committed to securing fair compensation and working conditions for our members. However, if nothing is done by the end of this month, we will activate all necessary mechanisms, including industrial action,” the leadership concluded.
