Cock-And-Bull Story :The Ablekuma North mayhem refers

Many questions continue to be posed as to what really happened that caused the security failure when we were dealing only with an election rerun in a few portions of a constituency.

The pictures of those who took part in the physical attack of prominent persons at the location were splashed across social media.

The Minister of the Interior following the occurrence promised that action would be taken.

With the images of the suspects available we did not expect it to take this long before action was taken. The action taken so far has a number of gaps which have pushed many Ghanaians not to believe the story of the Police.

Although eight persons are said to have been arrested and sent to court many think the whole story is staged.

The kingpins especially the man Malik Basintale described as a flying python is not part of the eight persons. So where from the eight suspects?

The Police have work to do. They must come out with a better story because the current one is not convincing.

The flying python who jumped at Ms Hawa Koomson and kicking her even when she was on the floor should be unearthed and arrested.

He is not part of the eight persons the Police claim they have arrested. Better particulars are required otherwise the image of the Police will continue to witness a downward spiral.

The subject under review is a serious one and the earlier the Police are allowed to do their work professionally without outside interference the better it would be for the image of this foremost internal security agency.

Ghanaians are so suspicious of the police being compromised when matters bordering on politics crop up the Ablekuma North subject being a case in point.

Unless the real suspects are identified by the victims and eyewitnesses at the crime scene and there are many; the cock-and-bull story from the police about arrests and court appearance remain unconvincing.

The Akwatia by-election is around the corner and IGP Christian Yohunu’s effort so far at convincing us that the police will be professional is yet to convince most Ghanaians especially the NPP.

Yesterday the party leadership hosted a press conference during which they told the Police that they are yet to hear from the Chief Constable regarding the demands they made when he met them.

With the baggage of bad policing in the Ablekuma North election rerun in selected areas on his head the IGP must respond to the requests of the NPP.

The demands are not unusual ones one being that the five thousand personnel to be deployed wear name tags for identification.

Soldiers are not wanted in Akwatia as demanded by the NPP. The demands we have learnt were prompted by intelligence gathered about the provision of police garbs and military fatigues for party rogues to cause commotion in the Akwatia by-election.

The subject under review is a test case for IGP Christian Yohunu as he prepares to retire from the Police in the next few months unless the Commander-In-Chief gives him a grace of an extension.

We do not want to believe that he would want to exit with unpleasant record….the IGP who could not police an election rerun in selected stations of a constituency.
