Dampare Snubs Former IGPs Parley

Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, convened a meeting with former Inspectors-General of Police at the National Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday April 2, 2025.

The gathering was aimed at leveraging the collective expertise and experience of former IGPs to enhance the Ghana Police Service’s administrative and operational effectiveness.

However, conspicuously missing was the immediate past IGP, George Akuffo Dampare.

This development is consistent with Dampare’s past actions, as he had previously boycotted a farewell meeting with President John Dramani Mahama after being dismissed from his position.

His dismissal by President Mahama marked a significant turning point in his career having failed to get tenure extension from the current administration.

He had instructed his lackeys to push a case in court against his dismissal which sources told The Daily Gist infuriated President Mahama leading to his matching order.

Dampare was given a 24-hour to move out of the Police Headquarters and replaced with his deputy, Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

The strained relationship between Dampare and Yohuno, has been well-documented.

When President Akufo-Addo appointed Tetteh Yohuno as Akuffo Dampare’s deputy, rumours of a rift between the two began to circulate.

The tension between them was palpable, with some sources suggesting that George Akuffo Dampare had taken issue with Tetteh Yohuno’s appointment.

Dampare’s boycott of the Wednesday meeting, has only added fuel to the fire, as report suggested he never respected his predecessors including the respected IGP Nana Owusu Nsiah who later become a member of the Council of State.
