Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has drawn attention to President John Dramani Mahama’s appearance at the 81st United Nations General Assembly after sharing a clip from the Ghanaian leader’s address with his millions of social-media followers.
Davido posted the video on his Instagram Story, highlighting a moment from Mahama’s speech in New York in which the Ghanaian president moved beyond the conventional diplomatic style of introducing himself and spoke about his personal background.
The moment stood out because Mahama spoke about his roots, including details about where he was born and his family background, giving the international audience a more personal account of the man behind the political office.
Mahama’s remarks might ordinarily have remained within the audience following proceedings at the UN General Assembly. Davido’s decision to share the clip, however, brought the moment to the attention of a much wider entertainment audience across Ghana, Nigeria and beyond.
