Discourteous, Rude And Pompous Minister

The late former President JJ Rawlings rightly tagged a band of young politicians in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as ‘kids with sharp teeth’.

The appearance of this gang of young politicians on the political space, their uncontrollable mouths spewing nonsense, has given cause to some observers to wonder whether democracy is not being dragged in the mud.

Sam Nartey George, the Communication Minister is unarguably one of such badmouths whose hubris and pomposity has earned him public opprobrium.

After chalking a few more years on the political ladder we would have expected that maturity which comes with ageing would teach him basic courtesy especially when addressing his compatriots some of them old enough to be his father or grandfather.

Unfortunately the foregone has eluded him and he continues to show unbridled disrespect to the people of this country.

His avoidable impasse, not Ghana’s with management of DStv has exposed his dark side further.

As he basks in the glitters of power his arrogance has advanced and he does not filter his thoughts before spewing them.

In his recent interview with a TV station he was heard demanding of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to consider re-introduction of comprehension in schools because the interviewee was unable to understand simple communication.

The import of his communication is that Ghanaians do not understand simple English and would therefore need this subject to enhance their comprehension of speeches.

Many who heard him were not taken aback because hubris is his stock-in-trade and they know it. Such persons were only surprised because they expected that with the position he is holding now he would have appreciated the importance of filtering his thoughts before spewing them.

Power is highly transient and those who are endowed with it by the people would be harming themselves when they forget about this attribute and behave as though they are invincible and would remain permanent features of their offices.

The Minority in Parliament has not avoided a response to the arrogant fella when they made reference to his hubris.

After all the hullabaloo about reducing the cost of packages of DStv and his boast that was going to happen and same not happening Sam Nartey should have tucked his tail between his hind legs and apologized to Ghanaians for not being able to make good his boast.

Upgrading to the next level of package is not tantamount to cost reduction. In any case management of Multichoice have explained that the three-month is nothing but a promotional exercise. In other words it has nothing to do with the Minister’s cacophony.

Characters like this young man do not add PR impetus to the JM government. They rather incur the wrath of people who are sensitive to disrespectful remarks veiled or bare.
