Residents of Suhum in the Eastern Region have been left counting their losses after a devastating fire outbreak swept through Sunshine Apartment on the morning of May 5, 2026, destroying multiple rooms and displacing several occupants.
The fire, which reportedly started at about 8:40 a.m., destroyed 27 rooms, along with one conference room and a reception area, leaving properties worth thousands of cedis destroyed.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the blaze spread rapidly through the structure, giving residents little time to salvage their belongings.
Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported, although many victims lost all personal possessions in the inferno.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are expected to determine what triggered the incident.
Fire outbreaks in residential facilities have been a recurring concern in parts of the municipality, often linked to electrical faults and other hazards, though authorities have yet to confirm the cause in this case.
Emergency response teams, including personnel from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), worked alongside the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) from Suhum, Koforidua, and Bonsu, as well as local community members, to bring the fire under control.

Their swift intervention helped prevent the flames from spreading to nearby buildings, averting a potentially larger disaster.
Following the incident, officials from NADMO conducted an on-site assessment to evaluate the extent of damage and identify the immediate needs of affected residents.
In response, the Municipal Assembly has arranged temporary accommodation for displaced victims and has pledged to provide feeding support until they can secure more permanent housing.
