Frozen Assets? Who Is Lying?

The Special Prosecutor and the former CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) are playing an interesting game of emotional intelligence in which the latter has gained the upper hand.

Enter the consummate lawyer Kissi Agyebeng and Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, an outstanding academic and a learned Islamic scholar… the two now don’t see eye to eye as they lock horns in the political ring yes a political ring.

The Special Prosecutor after his presentation of the former CEO in the media as an extortionist suspect, his usual way of handling his terms of reference attracted a lot of public flak.

Indeed when he commenced the trial in the media the subject did not attract the usual attention…many are fatigued by his trademark media trial. The public now understand the intention of the media presentations and would no longer be swayed by the long and boring press conferences underpinning them.

The Special Prosecutor as it is said in Ghanaian street parlance has met his meter. Following the media show by the Special Prosecutor, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid is said to have responded to a question about the charges preferred against him thus…they are useless.

Not known to be emotionally intelligent the Special Prosecutor in furtherance of the game between he and his latest prey acted upon Dr. Abdul-Hamid response with an announcement about the purported action he had taken against the ex-NPA boss…freezing of GHC100million assets.

Dr. Abdul-Hamid’s lawyers have denied any such action by the Special Prosecutor which prompts the question as to what the heck is happening.

There is no gainsaying the fact that our Special Prosecutor is sensitive to reactions from his targets…he gets too emotionally involved in cases he sets his sights on.

The language he uses in making his presentations when he stands in front of the cameras leaves us with no choice but to conclude that he is a Special Prosecutor on a mission of vengeance with an axe to grind with some persons in the Ghanaian society.

With Dr. Abdul-Hamid’s denial the public are faced with the task of determining which of the two is being economical with the truth. Of course one of them is and whoever it is should apologise to the people of Ghana.

Given the confidence with which the former CEO has put out the denial and considering the non-responsiveness from the Special Prosecutor’s quarters perhaps no asset-freezing has taken place.

If the latter portion of the foregone is anything to go by then we have in our hands a Special Prosecutor whose words can hardly be veracious, attribute which questions his integrity.
