Member of Parliament for Akuapem North Constituency in the Eastern Region, Samuel Kwabena Awuku, has responded with humour to renewed comments by Ghanaian highlife musician KK Fosu about contesting the Akuapem North parliamentary seat in the 2028 general elections.
The light-hearted exchange has sparked reactions on social media after KK Fosu declared during an interview on Asempa FM that he intends to challenge the incumbent MP for the constituency in the next parliamentary election.
Instead of responding with political attacks, Sammi Awuku took to his official Facebook page with a playful message directed at the musician.
“KK Fosu m’aya da! Please get me a campaign track before you pick nomination forms. Nice weekend Bro,” the Akuapem North legislator posted, suggesting that the award-winning musician should first compose a campaign song for him before officially entering the race.
The post quickly attracted hundreds of reactions and comments, with many social media users describing the exchange as a display of political maturity and mutual respect despite the prospect of a future electoral contest.
KK Fosu’s latest declaration is not the first time the musician has expressed interest in representing Akuapem North in Parliament.
His political ambition dates back to 2020 when he publicly announced plans to contest the parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the time, the multiple award-winning highlife artiste said his decision was inspired by a desire to empower the youth of Akuapem North and contribute to the constituency’s development.
“The youth of Akuapem North want me to contest for the seat and I have decided to contest. Hopefully, I can impact the youth by empowering them,” KK Fosu stated in 2020.
He also expressed confidence in the abilities of young people in the constituency, describing them as talented and hardworking, while pledging to champion programmes that would create opportunities for them.
Although his 2020 parliamentary ambition did not materialise, the musician appears determined to revive those aspirations ahead of the 2028 elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Showbiz Review programme, KK Fosu confidently declared that he would defeat Samuel Awuku in the next parliamentary contest.
His comments have added an entertainment twist to the political conversation in Akuapem North, a constituency that has traditionally been regarded as a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Samuel Awuku, a former National Youth Organiser and former National Organiser of the NPP, won the Akuapem North parliamentary seat in the 2024 general election after succeeding former MP Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei.
Since entering Parliament, he has undertaken a number of constituency development initiatives, including skills training programmes for the youth, educational support schemes, health outreach activities, and infrastructure interventions.
While KK Fosu’s declaration signals an early interest in the 2028 parliamentary race, Sammi Awuku’s humorous response suggests that, for now, the contest remains more of a friendly political conversation than an acrimonious rivalry.
