Ghana Secures 1,000 Seats For Black Stars Supporters For World Cup

The Government of Ghana has taken an unprecedented step to ensure strong fan representation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after securing 1,000 tickets in advance for supporters of the Black Stars, according to Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams.

The minister described the upcoming World Cup in North America as one of the most expensive tournaments ever for travelling supporters, revealing that authorities acted early to avoid soaring ticket prices and limited availability.

Speaking to Citi News, Adams explained that Ghana’s early planning had helped the country avoid what could have become a major logistical and financial challenge for fans hoping to support the national team in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Early Planning Saves Rising Costs

According to the Sports Minister, government officials recognized the potential difficulties associated with the tournament long before ticket demand surged globally.

“It is really nightmarish and a difficult one. This is the first time we are trying that. For us as a country, this is the first time we are playing a World Cup in that zone,” Adams stated.

“Luckily for us, we managed and planned very well and effectively. We ordered for 1,000. I believe that that is what has saved the situation because if we were waiting till now, it would have cost us huge sums of money to even get those number of tickets.”

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to attract record attendances following FIFA’s decision to expand the tournament from 32 to 48 nations, significantly increasing demand for match tickets and travel arrangements.

More Tickets Available Through Other Channels

The minister further disclosed that the government’s allocation is only part of a broader effort to facilitate Ghanaian fan participation at the tournament.

According to him, the Ghana Football Association and several private organizations have also independently secured tickets to support Ghanaian supporters.

“I wouldn’t say only a thousand. The FA itself has secured some tickets. We have other organisations that also have secured tickets. They are all sponsoring Ghanaians to be able to get in there,” he added.

The initiative is expected to boost the presence at tournament venues and recreate the passionate atmosphere that has traditionally accompanied the Black Stars at major international competitions.

Black Stars Intensify Preparations

The ticket announcement comes as Ghana intensifies preparations for its fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.

Under the guidance of Coach Carlos Queiroz, the Black Stars are scheduled to play two high-profile international friendlies before the tournament begins.

Ghana will first face Wales at Cardiff City Stadium before taking on Jamaica on June 10 in their final warm-up fixture.

The matches are expected to help Queiroz finalize his tactical plans and assess his squad ahead of the global showpiece.

Tough Group Awaits Ghana

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

The World Cup campaign will begin on June 17 against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto, a match many observers view as crucial to the team’s chances of progressing to the knockout stage.

The Black Stars will then face England in one of the most anticipated fixtures involving an African nation at the tournament on June 23 before concluding their group-stage campaign against Croatia on June 27.

First World Cup In North America For Ghana

The 2026 tournament will mark Ghana’s first World Cup participation in North America and its fifth appearance overall after competing in Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014 and Qatar 2022.
