A civil lawsuit has been filed against New Orleans Pelicans player Zion Williamson, accusing him of rape. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles, alleges that Williamson committed two rapes in Beverly Hills in 2020.
The accuser is seeking damages for assault, sexual battery, domestic violence, burglary, stalking, and false imprisonment.
The lawsuit describes the alleged abuse as “sexual, physical, emotional, and financial in nature.” However, Williamson does not face criminal charges, and his attorneys have released a statement denying the allegations.
According to Williamson’s legal team, the allegations are “categorically false and reckless,” and they plan to seek “significant damages for this defamatory lawsuit.”
Williamson’s attorneys, from the law firm Barrasso-Usdin-Kupperman-Freeman & Sarver, claim that the lawsuit is an attempt to exploit a professional athlete driven by a financial motive rather than any legitimate grievance.
They also stated that Williamson previously reported the claimant to law enforcement over alleged extortion attempts.
Accuser’s Lawyer Responds
The accuser’s lawyer, Sam Taylor II, from the Lanier Law Firm in Los Angeles, described the case as “very serious” and noted that the allegations in the complaint are “pretty detailed.”
The New Orleans Pelicans have been approached for comment on the matter.
