Uncertainty continues to surround the whereabouts of the Chief of Akyem Kukurantumi, Daasebre Boama Darko, following a decisive intervention by the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, who has appointed a regent to oversee the affairs of the traditional area amid his prolonged absence.
The development, announced in an official communication dated March 26, 2026, has intensified speculation within Akyem Abuakwa and beyond, with growing public concern over the status of Daasebre Boama Darko, who not only serves as the Chief of Kukurantumi but also holds a significant national role as a member of the Council of State.
In the statement issued from Ofori Panin Fie and signed by State Secretary D.M. Ofori-Atta, the Okyenhene formally named Bafuor Ohemeng Gyamera, the Krontihene of Kukurantumi, as Regent of the town.
The appointment, according to the statement, takes immediate effect and is necessitated by what was described as the “continuous absence” of the substantive chief.
“Your appointment has become necessary following the continuous absence of the Chief of Kukurantumi and the Adontenhene of Akyem Abuakwa, Daasebre Boama Darko,” the letter stated, without offering further details about the circumstances surrounding his absence.
Under the directive, Bafuor Ohemeng Gyamera is expected to work closely with the stool elders in managing the customary administration of Kukurantumi.
His responsibilities include overseeing all matters relating to the Kukurantumi Stool and ensuring stability within the community.
He is also required to report directly to Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, the Tafohene, in line with traditional governance structures within Akyem Abuakwa.
The lack of clarity regarding the whereabouts of Daasebre Boama Darko has fueled widespread rumours, particularly on social and traditional media platforms, with some speculating about his possible demise—claims that remain unconfirmed by official sources.
Historically, regency appointments within the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area are not uncommon, particularly in instances where a chief is incapacitated, absent, or otherwise unable to perform customary duties.
However, such decisions are typically accompanied by clear communication to quell public speculation, a factor that appears limited in the current situation.
The silence surrounding the Kukurantumi stool has therefore heightened public interest, given the dual traditional and national roles occupied by Daasebre Boama Darko.
As a Council of State member, his absence also raises broader governance concerns, although no official statement has been issued at the national level regarding his status.
For now, the appointment of a regent is expected to ensure continuity in traditional leadership and maintain order within Kukurantumi.
Yet, until clarity is provided on the status of the substantive chief, questions over his whereabouts—and the circumstances leading to his prolonged absence—are likely to persist.
