Otto Addo’s Message To Foreign-Born Players Considering Ghana Switch

BY Issah Olegor

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has sent a clear message to foreign-born players who have been approached or have expressed interest in representing Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Otto Addo emphasized that national pride and commitment are essential for squad selection, and players who previously declined invitations may not be guaranteed a spot.

Otto Addo stated that each case would be evaluated individually, but made it clear that players who have ignored previous calls or declined invitations might struggle to find a place in the team.

“We will look at each case one by one,” he said. “There are players I have been chasing since 2021 who didn’t reply to our calls or want to come.”

The coach stressed that Ghana should always have a certain pride, and the team’s unity and culture would be maintained by selecting players with genuine commitment.

“I think Ghana should always have a certain pride. As a country, we need to check the commitment of each player. We have very good unity, and we don’t want to destroy it by bringing in players who don’t have commitment.”

Speculation has grown around England-born duo Callum Hudson-Odoi and Eddie Nketiah, with reports suggesting renewed interest from both players in joining the Black Stars.

However, Addo’s message suggests that these players will face scrutiny regarding their commitment to the team.

Ghana’s World Cup Aspirations

Ghana has qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and Addo has expressed his determination to guide the team beyond the group stage.
