In a decisive operation targeting transnational cybercrime, the Ghana Police Service has arrested ten foreign nationals suspected of engaging in illegal online activities.
The suspects, a mix of Chinese and Malaysian nationals, were apprehended during a coordinated operation led by the Police Cybercrime Unit in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The arrests took place in Weija, a growing urban center in the southwestern part of Accra, known for both residential developments and a rising number of commercial tech hubs.
According to police sources, the operation was intelligence-led and formed part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on sophisticated cybercrime networks exploiting Ghana’s digital space.
Law enforcement officers seized a significant cache of electronic equipment during the raid, including over 800 assorted mobile phones, several laptop computers, and numerous charging devices.
These items, believed to have been used in the execution of the suspected cyber activities, are currently undergoing forensic analysis.
The suspects are in police custody and are assisting with investigations.
The authorities have not yet disclosed the specific nature of the cybercrimes allegedly committed, but the magnitude of the equipment recovered suggests a highly organized and possibly transnational operation.
