Dilemma Of A Minister

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa ever thought that a moment would come when Ghanaians would demand that he makes good his promise of resigning should an NDC President or Vice President travel by private jet he would not have treaded that tangent.

Unfortunately for him his feet is being put to the fire of integrity test.

Garrulousness during the opposition phase of a political party is a period when circumspection is advised. Unfortunately however some youthful politicians go too far promising what they cannot offer and smearing their political opponents with lies for electoral leverage.
So soon it is time to find out whether the Foreign Affairs Minister is a man of integrity.

Lying to power has a way of exposing and humiliating those engaged in this anomalous politicking. Were our country to be in another jurisdiction where principles are held in high esteem we would have been composing a different commentary now…one about a minister walking his promise.

Not so in our dispensation where the true character of politicians…..lies and absence of integrity are veneered by the fabric they were.
You survey such personalities sitting behind their office desks and sometimes making submissions at public forums and you would want to find out whether such persons have the moral integrity to sermonize about morals as they often do.

The Foreign Affairs Minister has so far not responded to the demand that he walks his talk. While we know he would not do so we shall nonetheless tarry a while and see what his response would be.

Under a regime of selective responses to matters of public interest he might simply brush the demand as a silly prank from his opponents.

To be associated with mendacity especially as one holds public office is something which evokes questions about the health of government.

Not responding at all to the demands after the return of the Vice President via a five-star hotel in the air aircraft poses a moral question to both the President and the minister who are in a dilemma as to whether to respond or not.

A little exercise in logic would tell us who Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is. Liars are persons who lie. Everything they say constitute lies. The minister under review lied and so he passes for a liar unless he resigns his appointment.

Should liars be bestowed with the management of public offices such as the one being held by Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa? No because persons who come in contact with them see lies in their temperament. This of course does not inure to the interest of the country because being a Foreign Affairs Minister he represents the façade of the country.
