The Suhum Circuit Court in the Eastern Region has sentenced 26-year-old Aboagye Dacosta, popularly known as “Kwabota,” to 18 years in prison for sexually abusing two young girls, age five and six.

The verdict, delivered by Judge Akua Adu Boahen, followed a thorough trial that examined the evidence presented by both the prosecution and the defense.

The case, which has caused widespread concern in the community, began when the children were sent on an errand by their mother.

Detective Chief Inspector Emmanuel Otu, who led the prosecution, told the court that the accused lured the girls to a secluded area in the Dan Villa suburb, where the offences occured.

The girls’ mother was alerted when one of them confided in her, prompting her to report the matter to local authorities.

During the trial, Aboagye Dacosta pleaded not guilty to the charges of defilement.

However, the court, after carefully reviewing witness testimonies and the investigation reports, found him guilty of the offences.

In delivering the sentence, Her Honour Akua Adu Boahen emphasized the seriousness of the crimes, noting the vulnerability of the victims and the need for strict punishment to serve as a deterrent to others.
