The Boy Who Walked With A Plastic Chair: 9-Year-Old Pays His Last Respects To Dr. Omane Boamah His Support

Amid the sorrow and tributes at the funeral of Ghana’s late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, one small figure captured the hearts of mourners at the Black Star Square.

Nine-year-old Setor, a boy with a mobility challenge, came to bid a final farewell to the man who had changed his life.

Setor’s story had earlier moved many when it emerged that he walked to school daily using a plastic chair as a walking aid.

His plight caught the attention of philanthropist Bones Man TV, who shared the boy’s condition publicly, sparking calls for urgent medical intervention.

It was Dr. Omane Boamah- Minister for Defence—who stepped forward.

Despite his demanding schedule, he did not only pledged to fund Setor’s surgery but went ahead to cover the full cost.

According to Bones Man, the late minister maintained constant communication, calling almost daily to check on Setor’s progress, ensuring the young boy received the medical attention he needed.

“His kindness was overwhelming,” Bones Man recounted in a Facebook post. “He didn’t know me personally, but he opened his doors, invited me to his ministry, and fully paid for the boy’s surgery. He even promised to support further after the procedure.”

The young boy, who now walks with ease after a successful operation, insisted on attending the funeral of his benefactor on August 15, 2025.

Carrying with him the same plastic chair that once served as his only means of mobility, Setor stood quietly with mourners at Black Star Square.

“We came with the chair to represent where he started from and how Dr. Omane Boamah transformed his life,” Bones Man explained.

“Protocols didn’t allow us to get closer, but I know wherever his soul rests, he would be proud to see Setor here today.”

The moving gesture brought another layer of emotion to a funeral already weighed down by grief.

Dr. Omane Boamah, together with seven others, perished on August 6, 2025, when a Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9 helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region in a deep forest.

For Setor, however, the Defence Minister’s legacy goes beyond politics and state duty. It is the story of compassion, of a statesman who looked beyond his high office to change the life of a struggling child.
