Time To Reflect, Change Our Ways

The tragic death of the eight state officials when the helicopter they were traveling in crashed was a rare occurrence in our history.

It therefore shook the foundation of the country when news about the incident broke…the aftermath of which was for once creating a seeming sense of suspension of dirty politics of lies and chicanery which has engulfed this country for a long time now.

A few diehards continued to though show insensitivity to the solemn occasion and continue to churn garbage called opinions.
When death the leveler strikes an air of solemnity takes over triggering reflection about the vanity of life. Our focus should be about serving the Creator and respecting other human beings.

To those entrusted with the tasks of managing the affairs of their compatriots let them do so with a sense of responsibility and dedication and God-fearing.
Politics has today been characterized by personal attacks on persons whose opinions do not tally with ours- makes us wonder what democracy is all about when we allow such inappropriate traits to overcome us.

The disregard for our traditional values has hit an all-time low. Why would people in the name of politics and styling themselves as serial callers hurl lies at others without evidence of what they are saying.
With total disregard for age they insult people the age of their grandfathers just so they can catch the eyes of their paymasters- who rather than rebuke them applaud them behind the scenes and in some instances offering state courtesies for their excellence in insulting chiefs, politicians and all others who offer dissenting views on national issues.

Where are our wise men and women? Have they abandoned the responsibility of keeping in check the wayward youth who acting upon the directions of rich politicians know no bounds in their verbal attacks?
Our values have gone down the drain a situation which calls for both intercession and intervention of people of conscience in society. They are in short supply such persons whose voices should be able to douse the fire of impunity and recklessness. The few remaining afraid of being insulted have kept to themselves leaving the country to go downhill.

The death of the eight distinguished personalities in the chopper accident like other deaths should tell us that the world is but an ephemeral plane on which all men are actors- at the end of their performance all would retire to their place of origin whose make they know not.

Unfortunately the reflection which should follow such occurrences as being reviewed even when they take place do not yield the desired results of repentance and changed behavior.
Our indifference to matters which hinge upon the interest of the country is what led to the death of the eight heroes. We have refused to heed the call to stop illegal mining- with in some instances persons related to the ruling party partaking in the illegality.

Let us resolve to make our country great. Greatness would elude us if we refuse to adhere to principles which are necessary factors for national growth and development.
For those who have departed we pray that the Creator would grant them peace as they transition to the hereafter.
