Two people are feared dead after a microlight aircraft crashed in Tema in the Greater Accra Region on Monday, March 16, 2026, in an incident that has prompted an investigation by aviation authorities.
The aircraft, with registration number 9G-ADV, was travelling from Ho in the Volta Region to Accra when the crash occurred. According to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the aircraft was expected to arrive in Accra at approximately 1520 Zulu time (GMT) but lost contact with air traffic control earlier during the flight.
In a statement issued on Monday, the aviation regulator confirmed that the last radio communication with the aircraft was recorded at about 1418 Zulu time before the incident occurred.

Initial reports indicate that two persons were on board the microlight aircraft at the time of the crash. Emergency response teams were quickly deployed to the scene following reports that the aircraft had gone down in Tema, with personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service assisting in rescue and recovery operations.
Authorities say investigations are underway to determine the circumstances that led to the crash. Officials are expected to examine flight records, communication logs and possible technical factors that may have contributed to the incident.
The GCAA said more information will be released as investigators gather further details about the crash and confirm the identities of the persons on board
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, established in 1986, serves as the regulatory body responsible for overseeing air transport operations in the country.

The Authority manages airspace within the Accra Flight Information Region (FIR), licenses air transport operators, regulates aerodromes and ensures safety standards across the aviation sector.
Monday’s incident has once again drawn attention to aviation safety in Ghana, particularly involving smaller aircraft operating between regional airstrips and the capital. Aviation authorities are expected to provide additional updates as the investigation progresses.
