The University of Ghana Corporate Football League (UGCFL) has officially entered its second competitive season, with organisers outlining ambitious plans to expand the tournament’s reach and influence within the corporate and sporting landscape.

The 2026 season was formally launched on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the VIP Lounge of the University of Ghana Stadium, bringing together representatives of participating corporate institutions, sports administrators, invited guests and the media.

The event marked the beginning of preparations for a league that is scheduled to run from February to June 2026.

Building on the momentum of its maiden edition in 2025, which was characterised by keen competition, strong corporate participation and growing public interest, organisers believe the league is poised to evolve into a major fixture on the sports calendar.

The initiative is designed not only to promote fitness and networking among corporate institutions but also to strengthen the relationship between academia, business and sports development.

Speaking at the launch, Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Dr. Fred Awaah, expressed optimism about the future of the competition, stressing that collaboration will be key to its long-term success.

He called on more corporate bodies to buy into the vision, noting that sustainable sports development in modern times thrives on partnerships.

According to Dr. Awaah, the combined efforts of corporate Ghana, the University of Ghana, the National Sports Authority and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation are essential if the league is to grow in scale and impact.

He indicated that pooling resources, expertise and institutional strengths would help elevate the standard of organisation and competition in subsequent seasons.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, also used the platform to encourage wider participation, particularly from companies that were unable to join the 2026 edition.

She cautioned that as interest in the league continues to grow, entry may become more competitive, with a potential cut-off point in future seasons.

Professor Amfo urged corporate organisations to begin preparations early for subsequent editions, emphasising that the league’s expansion would be matched by improved organisation and heightened competitiveness.

With structures already in place, the 2026 UG Corporate Football League is set to kick off on February 13, 2026.

Matches will be played every Friday evening from 5:00pm to 10:00pm at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, ensuring consistent weekly football action for participants, supporters and stakeholders.
