The United States Embassy in Accra has announced the release of more than 2,000 new visa appointment slots for B1/B2 travellers, a move expected to benefit thousands of Ghanaians planning trips to the United States in the coming months, including football supporters eager to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The additional appointment slots, which will be available over the next two weeks, are open to individuals seeking B1/B2 non-immigrant visas for a range of purposes such as tourism, business engagements, family visits, and sporting events.
The embassy disclosed the development in a statement issued through its official communication channels, urging prospective applicants to take advantage of the opportunity to secure earlier interview dates.
According to the embassy, the newly created slots are intended to help ease growing demand for U.S. visas as travel interest surges ahead of the World Cup tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026.
“We have more than 2,000 visa appointment slots available in the next two weeks for B1/B2 travellers — whether you’re planning a business trip, visiting family, general tourism, or wanting to watch the World Cup,” the embassy stated.
Officials also encouraged applicants who currently hold interview appointments scheduled for later in the year to consider rescheduling them to earlier available dates. This measure, the embassy noted, is aimed at helping travellers finalize their plans sooner and avoid possible delays during the peak travel period expected ahead of the global football spectacle.
The B1/B2 visa category covers short-term travel for both business and tourism purposes. Applicants are required to schedule their interviews through the official U.S. visa appointment website and must present relevant supporting documents during the interview process to demonstrate the purpose of their visit.
The announcement comes amid heightened excitement among Ghanaian football fans following the qualification of the Ghana national football team, popularly known as the Black Stars, for the expanded 2026 World Cup tournament.
While many supporters are preparing to travel to North America to cheer on the team, the embassy emphasized that the newly opened visa appointments are not limited to football fans alone but are available to all eligible travellers seeking short-term entry into the United States.
The embassy further advised applicants to book appointments early and closely monitor official communication platforms for updates on visa processing and interview schedules, as preparations intensify for what is expected to be the largest World Cup tournament in history.
