The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has recorded significant interest in its 2026 National Officers Elections, with a total of 50 aspirants purchasing nomination forms to contest nine national executive positions as the nomination period officially closed on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
The figures, contained in a statement issued by the National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) and signed by its Chairman, Frederick Opare-Ansah, indicate a competitive race for several of the party’s top positions.
The National Vice Chairperson position has attracted the highest number of aspirants, with 13 people purchasing forms, followed by the National Organiser position with eight aspirants.
The National Youth Organiser position has six aspirants, while five candidates have expressed interest in becoming National Chairperson. Another five have picked forms for the National Nasara Organiser position. Four aspirants each are contesting the General Secretary and National Treasurer positions, while three have picked forms for National Women Organiser. The National Communications Director position has attracted two aspirants.
For the influential National Chairperson position, the five aspirants are Paul Afoko, John Boadu, Boakye Agyarko, Sammy Crabbe and Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi. Their participation sets the stage for a closely watched contest for one of the party’s most powerful national positions.
The National Vice Chairperson race is currently the most crowded, with Henry Nana Boakye, Kojo Fosu Boadu, Mustapha Abdul Hameed, Samuel Pyne, Richard Ahiagba, Abena Pokua Boaitey Amoah, Alhaji Masawudu Osman, Yaa Amponsah Frimpong, George Kwabena Abankwah Yeeboah, Horma Miezah, Richard Oti Aboagye, Bright Esselfie Kumi and Nana Akomea listed among those who have purchased forms.
The General Secretary contest has also attracted four aspirants: Justin Kodua Frimpong, Eugene Boakye Antwi, Sylvester Tetteh and Charles Dwamena. The National Treasurer position similarly has four aspirants—Alfred Kojo Thompson, Collins Nuntwiri Nuamah, Tahiru Issahaku Moomin and Ahmed Ruka Saida.
Eight aspirants have picked forms for the National Organiser position. They are Glover Daniel Nii Kwartei, Salam Mustapha, Kwame Prempeh, Archibald Korletey Gamor, Emmanuel Korsi Bodja, Nana Kwadjo Agyei Yeboah, Daniel Agyenim Boateng and Ali Maiga Halidu.
The National Women Organiser race has three aspirants: Mavis Hawa Koomson, Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada and Safia Mohammed. The six contenders for National Youth Organiser are Clement Opoku Gyamfi, Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, Micheal Osei Boateng, Vera Oye Bram-Larbi, Kumi Alfred Ababio and Abanga Fuseini Yakubu.
For the National Nasara Organiser position, the aspirants are Issaka Muazo Kunata, Salim Bamba, Razak Tahiru Maiga, Awal Mohammed and Mohammed Ali Suraj. The National Communications Director contest has two aspirants—Dennis Miracles Aboagye and Evans Kodom.
However, the NOEC has cautioned that the purchase or collection of nomination forms does not automatically make an individual a valid candidate in the election. According to the Committee, an aspirant will become a nominee only after properly filing the completed nomination forms together with all required documentation within the stipulated period.
The filing process is scheduled to begin on Sunday, August 23, 2026, and will close on Saturday, August 29. The party has consequently urged all aspirants to complete the process within the prescribed period and in accordance with the procedures communicated by the Elections Committee.
The filing stage will be followed by vetting, which has been scheduled from Monday, August 31 to Thursday, September 3, 2026. The National Chairperson, General Secretary and National Treasurer aspirants will undergo vetting on Monday, August 31, while National Vice Chairperson aspirants will be vetted on Tuesday, September 1.
National Organiser and National Youth Organiser aspirants are scheduled for vetting on Wednesday, September 2. The final day, Thursday, September 3, has been allocated for the vetting of aspirants for National Communications Director, National Nasara Organiser and National Women Organiser.
One significant issue yet to be determined is the date for the actual balloting. The NOEC explained that the absence of a fixed voting date is deliberate rather than an oversight. The Committee said it wants the filing, vetting and any appeals that may arise to be completed before determining the final field of candidates.
According to the Committee, the experience of previous internal elections shows that fixing a voting date before qualification and appeal processes have been exhausted could create difficulties, particularly if an aspirant challenges a vetting decision. Such circumstances, it noted, could force the postponement or suspension of an already announced election date.
The NOEC has therefore decided to retain flexibility in the election timetable until the candidates have been sufficiently settled after vetting and appeals. A firm date for balloting will subsequently be announced, with the Committee promising to give all aspirants adequate notice of the date, time, venue and procedures.
The development marks the next major phase in the NPP’s preparations for its 2026 National Officers Elections. With 50 aspirants initially entering the race across nine positions, the vetting and appeals stages are expected to determine how many eventually qualify to appear on the ballot.
The high number of aspirants also underscores the level of competition within the opposition party as it prepares to elect a new crop of national officers. The NOEC has called on the aspirants and their supporters to conduct their campaigns in a manner that protects party unity, mutual respect and confidence in the internal electoral process.
The Committee has further pledged to administer the elections with fairness, transparency and impartiality, while adhering to the NPP Constitution and applicable election regulations.
The nomination process was officially declared successful and peaceful by the NOEC, which expressed appreciation to the aspirants, their representatives, party officials, media personnel, security officers and Secretariat staff for their cooperation.
