Ghana international Felix Afena-Gyan has wrapped up a productive loan spell in Turkey by helping Amedspor secure promotion to the top flight, following a dramatic final-day result on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
The young striker was handed a starting role in a crucial must-not-lose clash against Igdir FK, delivering a solid performance in a pulsating 3–3 draw away from home. Afena-Gyan played a key role in the contest before being substituted in injury time, earning a match rating of 6.4 as Amedspor battled to secure the vital point needed for promotion.
Dramatic Fashion
The draw proved decisive, confirming Amedspor’s second-place finish in the Turkish second tier and guaranteeing one of the two automatic promotion slots. The club ended the season on 74 points, finishing seven points behind champions Erzurumspor and level on points with Erokspor.
Amedspor ultimately edged Erokspor on the head-to-head rule, sealing their place in the top division and sparking celebrations among players and supporters alike.
Afena-Gyan’s Contribution
Over the course of the season, Afena-Gyan made 35 league appearances, scoring five goals — a modest but important contribution in a highly competitive campaign. Beyond his goal tally, his pace, pressing ability, and work rate made him a valuable asset in Amedspor’s push for promotion.
The loan spell provided the Ghanaian forward with consistent playing time and an opportunity to rebuild confidence after limited opportunities at club level in recent seasons.

Background: Career Development Continues
Afena-Gyan, once regarded as one of Ghana’s most promising young strikers, rose to prominence during his time in Italy, where he made headlines with crucial goals early in his career.
His move to Turkey was seen as a chance to rediscover form and gain regular minutes — a decision that appears to have paid off.
What Next for the Ghanaian Forward?
Following the conclusion of his loan, Afena-Gyan is expected to return to parent club US Cremonese in Italy. His future, however, remains uncertain, with questions over whether he will be reintegrated into the squad or seek another move for continued development.
