Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called for unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the party begins preparations to rebuild its structures and position itself ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The former President made the call when the National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) paid a courtesy visit to him at his office as part of efforts to engage key party figures ahead of the NPP’s 2026 National Delegates Conference.
According to a Facebook post by the NOEC Chairperson, Frederick Opare-Ansah, Nana Akufo-Addo expressed confidence in the party’s prospects for the 2028 election but stressed that achieving that objective would require renewed commitment and a strong organisational foundation.
The former President identified unity as a critical factor in the party’s efforts to rebuild and renew itself following its recent electoral challenges.
He particularly emphasised the need for the NPP to strengthen and energise its grassroots base, suggesting that a revitalised party organisation would be important to its preparations for the next general election.
His comments come as the NPP moves toward its 2026 National Delegates Conference, where the party is expected to undertake important organisational and leadership processes.
The former President also commended the NOEC for the work it has undertaken toward the organisation of the National Delegates Conference and the national officers election process.
Nana Akufo-Addo expressed his support for the committee and its activities, while assuring the members that he would attend the upcoming conference.
The engagement with the former President forms part of the NOEC’s wider consultations and preparations for the national conference, which will bring together delegates and party stakeholders as the NPP seeks to strengthen its structures.
For the party, the period leading to 2028 is expected to involve renewed efforts at grassroots mobilisation, internal organisation and rebuilding following the outcome of the 2024 general elections.
Nana Akufo-Addo’s emphasis on unity therefore places internal cohesion at the centre of the party’s rebuilding efforts, with the former President urging members to remain committed to strengthening the organisation from the grassroots upward.
The NOEC, in response, expressed appreciation to the former President for receiving the delegation and for the counsel and support he offered as the committee prepares for the conference.
The committee said the engagement had provided further encouragement as it continues its work toward the successful organisation of the 2026 National Delegates Conference and the national officers election process.
