Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the 14th Queen Mother (Asantehemaa) of the Asante Kingdom, describing her as “a queen of grace and wisdom” whose leadership strengthened the traditions and values of Asanteman.

On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, a high-powered delegation of chiefs and elders from the Manhyia Palace, sent by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, visited the former president to formally inform him of the passing of the revered royal figure.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, a fellow member of the Oyoko royal clan, reigned for eight years before her death, leaving behind a legacy of dignity, cultural preservation, and maternal leadership.

Akufo-Addo recalled a warm personal relationship with the late queen mother, noting that during his visits to Kumasi while in office and beyond, he made it a point to call on her to exchange greetings and discuss matters of mutual interest.

“She was fully committed to the values and traditions of the great Asante Kingdom, and our friendship was both good and fruitful,” he said.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s tenure as queen mother was marked by her active role in cultural ceremonies, conflict resolution, and the mentoring of younger royals.

As Asantehemaa, she was not only a symbolic mother to the Asante Kingdom but also an important custodian of the Oyoko lineage.

Expressing solidarity with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the entire Asante nation, Akufo-Addo prayed for her eternal rest.

“I grieve with Otumfuo the Asantehene and Asanteman on such a sad loss, and pray that her venerable soul receives peaceful rest in the bosom of the Almighty until the Last Day of the Resurrection, when we shall all meet again,” he stated.

The passing of Nana Konadu Yiadom has been met with widespread mourning across the country, with tributes pouring in from political leaders, traditional rulers, and ordinary citizens.
