As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) navigates a period of internal discord and prepares for a crucial political reset, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has issued a rallying call for unity, discipline, and maturity within the party’s ranks.
In a statement released on June 13, 2025, Dr. Acheampong acknowledged growing tensions within the NPP, particularly as manifested through increasingly hostile exchanges on social media.
His statement comes at a time when the party is undergoing introspection following its loss in the 2024 general elections.
“While passionate political discourse is natural, division and hostility only serve to weaken us,” Dr. Acheampong warned.
He emphasized the need for unity of purpose and maturity of conduct among all levels of the party—from the grassroots to top-tier leadership—as the NPP seeks to rebuild and reposition itself as a credible alternative ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Dr. Acheampong, who served as Minister for Food and Agriculture in the previous NPP administration and has long been seen as an influential figure in party strategy, stressed that the path forward must be anchored in collaboration and a shared commitment to the development.
“What is required of us all, and in particular the leadership of the party, is to ensure that hope is restored – through unity of purpose, maturity in conduct, and discipline in our ranks,” he stated, noting that personal grievances must be set aside in favour of collective goals.
Observers say his intervention reflects broader concerns within the party hierarchy over worsening internal divisions.
Recent months have seen various factions within the NPP openly criticize each other over the party’s direction, with some prominent figures clashing over issues ranging from leadership succession to the party’s campaign messaging in 2024.
Dr Acheampong’s statement appears aimed at cooling tempers and redirecting focus to the party’s core values and shared mission.
“Let us set aside personal differences, engage in constructive discourse, and stay committed to the values that brought us together,” he urged, adding that this is about more than just healing past rifts—it’s about working together to ensure a stronger, more credible NPP.
In the aftermath of the 2024 elections, the NPP has faced calls for both reform and introspection, with many grassroots members demanding a more inclusive approach to leadership, better internal communication, and a strategic rethink to regain public trust.
