The families of the victims involved in the tragic microlight aircraft crash at Tema Community 1 have officially confirmed the identities of their loved ones, describing their loss as devastating and difficult to bear.
In a statement issued on March 21, 2026, the Wettey and Donkor families announced that the victims were Captain Frank Amoanyi Donkor and Elijah Ofori Donkor, who both lost their lives in the crash that occurred on Monday, March 16.
The two, described as sons of Elder and Mrs Frank Donkor, were remembered as “bright lights” within their families—individuals full of promise, warmth and life.
According to the family, their sudden passing has left a deep void, with relatives still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
The fatal crash involved a microlight aircraft with registration number 9G-ADV, which, according to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), was travelling from Ho to Accra before it lost contact with air traffic control at approximately 1418 Zulu time.
The aircraft was expected to arrive in Accra at 1520 Zulu time but instead crashed in Tema, killing both occupants on board.
In their statement, the grieving families expressed appreciation to state institutions for their swift response and professionalism in handling the incident.
They specifically commended the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, the Ghana National Fire Service, and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana) for their efforts during and after the crash.
Quoting scripture to draw strength in their moment of grief, the families cited Job 1:21: “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” They noted that while the pain remains overwhelming, their faith continues to sustain them.
The families also made a passionate appeal to the public, the media, and well-wishers to respect their privacy as they mourn their loved ones. They described the period as an extremely difficult time and urged for understanding and sensitivity.
They further expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, prayers and condolences received since the incident, indicating that details of funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
