The Ghana National Hockey Team has made a remarkable impression at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 Hockey Tournament in Egypt, winning the Female silver medal.
Despite limited resources and infrastructure, the team exceeded expectations, losing narrowly to South Africa in the final.
The team’s success was highlighted by individual awards, with Dorothy Nggisah named Best Female Goalkeeper and Mavis Boatemaa Berko emerging as the top scorer.
Sports Minister, Kofi Iddie Adams congratulated the team on their achievement, praising their resilience and dedication.
He assured the team of the Ministry’s support, including the establishment of a National Sports Fund to provide sustainable funding for sports development.
The Minister urged the Ghana Hockey Federation to prioritize coach development and sports journalism training to further boost the sport’s growth. With government backing, Ghana’s hockey team is poised to make a lasting impact on the international stage.
The team’s impressive performance at AFCON 2025 has not only earned national pride but also demonstrated the potential to compete with the best in Africa.
