Kessben Media Suspends DJ KA As Ama Parone Admits Role

BY GRACE ZIGAH

The controversy surrounding popular Kumasi-based radio presenter Rexford Adu Ntim, known professionally as DJ KA, has taken a dramatic turn after Kessben Media suspended him from duty following the circulation of sex video that has dominated social media discussions in recent days.

The suspension represents the first major institutional action against the broadcaster since the footage surfaced online, despite DJ KA previously apologising publicly and providing his account of circumstances surrounding the recording and its eventual leakage.

In a statement issued on Friday, Kessben Media confirmed that management had become aware of material circulating online involving one of its employees in what the company described as a sexually compromising situation.

Management stressed that the media organisation does not condone the conduct depicted in the footage and equally disapproves of the continued circulation of the sensitive material.

“The Management of Kessben Media wants to state clearly that the company does not condone such acts, the actions of the staff member, and the circulation of the material in any form,” the statement said.

Consequently, the company has launched an internal investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Pending completion of that investigation, DJ KA has been directed to stay away from his official duties and cooperate fully with management’s inquiry.

Kessben Media said its decision was guided by its commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism, integrity, respect and ethical conduct among employees.

However, management indicated that the suspension should not be interpreted as abandoning the presenter during the controversy.

The company said DJ KA would be provided with counselling, rehabilitation and, where necessary, legal assistance to help him deal with the impact of the incident.

The station also appealed directly to members of the public to stop circulating the alleged intimate footage, drawing attention to the sensitive nature of the material and Ghana’s laws governing cyber activity and the distribution of private content.

Media organisations and commentators were similarly urged to exercise restraint when discussing the controversy and avoid unnecessarily linking the wider Kessben Media brand to the private conduct under investigation.

Management further warned that it would not protect anybody ultimately found to have played a role in wrongdoing, saying the findings of the internal investigation would determine its next course of action.

DJ KA’s Apology

The disciplinary action comes after DJ KA publicly apologised to his family, friends, listeners, colleagues and the wider public over the controversy.

The award-winning disc jockey, who previously worked with Silver FM before joining Kessben FM, said the recording at the centre of the controversy dated back approximately four years.

DJ KA said the episode occurred during a difficult period of his life and maintained that his past actions should not be regarded as representing the person he is today.

“I take full responsibility for my actions and the pain this has caused,” he said in his apology.

He added that he had grown and learned from his mistakes and remained committed to becoming a better person while continuing his broadcasting career.

DJ KA has also made allegations concerning how the recording was obtained and circulated, including claims involving a former associate and alleged blackmail. Those allegations remain his account of events and have not been established by the internal investigation announced by Kessben Media.

The broadcaster has built a substantial following in Kumasi and beyond through his radio work and promotion of traditional and classical Ghanaian music. He has also received recognition at the Ghana DJ Awards, including for his work promoting highlife.

Ama Parone Breaks Silence

The controversy has widened further following a public statement attributed to radio personality Ama Parone, whose name had been repeatedly mentioned in online speculation surrounding videos circulating alongside the DJ KA controversy.

After initially remaining silent while social media users debated her alleged involvement, Ama Parone said she decided to speak because her silence was increasingly being interpreted as an admission.

In her statement, she apologised to her family, colleagues, fans, mentors and members of the public over a video she acknowledged featured her.

According to Ama Parone, the recording belonged to a period of her past that she regrets.

“The video currently circulating, which features me, is a part of my past I am not proud of. It does not reflect who I am today,” she stated.

She described herself at the time as younger and naïve and said she had made choices she now deeply regretted.

Ama Parone maintained that the episode belonged to a chapter of her life that had long ended, insisting that she had subsequently matured and worked to build a respectable career.

She therefore appealed for understanding while asking the public to judge her on the person she has become rather than solely on her past.

Second Video Is Not Me’ — Ama Parone

Significantly, however, Ama Parone rejected claims linking her to another video being circulated online.

She said categorically that she was not the woman in the second recording, warning social media users against attaching her identity to footage in which the woman’s identity had not been independently established.

“That video is not me,” she stressed, adding that she would not accept responsibility for material with which she says she had no involvement.

Her clarification comes amid concerns about the speed with which names, photographs and allegations have been attached to private recordings circulating on social media, sometimes without verification.

Ama Parone Sends Message to DJ KA

Ama Parone also addressed DJ KA directly, referring to the Kessben Media presenter as her “Godfather” and acknowledging the role she said he had played in developing her career.

She described DJ KA as someone who supported her when she was struggling professionally, opened opportunities for her and believed in her abilities.

“You have been a pillar of support in my life and career. You opened doors for me when I had nothing. You believed in me when others didn’t,” she said.

She expressed sadness that both of them had become subjects of intense public scrutiny at the same time and prayed for DJ KA to find the strength to overcome the controversy.

Ama Parone also thanked people who had privately offered encouragement while appealing to those circulating videos and making jokes about the situation to consider the human consequences of their actions.
